This painting captures the tender heart of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, whose love for His sheep knows no bounds. He longs for each one to be safe in the fold, and His heart aches that none should be lost. That's why He leaves the 99, trusting them to safety, to seek out the one who has wandered away. When He finds the lost sheep, He gently brings them back, wrapping them in His love and restoring them with a heart that beats in tune with the Father’s. In this restoration, He fills them with new desires, guiding them with tenderness. Jesus also calls us to cherish and nurture the community around us, reminding us to never forsake gathering together, for it is in community/ body of Christ that we grow and are strengthened (Hebrews 10:25).
Matthew 18:12 which reads, "What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?
